U.S. Opposed to Change in Status Quo Between China and Taiwan

Secretary Blinken says the administration is committed to Taiwan’s right to defend itself.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken concluded a two-day visit to China with a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He is the first Cabinet member to visit China since 2019.

During discussions with President Xi regarding United States policy toward Taiwan, Secretary Blinken said, “We do not support Taiwan independence. We remain opposed to any unilateral changes to the status quo by either side.”

He stated that it is the goal of the U.S. to have a “peaceful resolution” of the issues between China and Taiwan, but also “remains committed” to “making sure that Taiwan has the ability to defend itself.”

Taiwan produces over 60 percent of the world’s semiconductors used in everything from mobile phones to electric vehicles, and the microchip industry makes up 90 percent of Taiwan’s GDP.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Blinken to seek God’s guidance as he pledges support and commitment to various nations.
  • For the president and his foreign policy advisors as they determine U.S. responses to international conflicts.
  • For U.S. military commanders and personnel as interactions with the Chinese military increase in the South China Sea.
